London, 06 Nov 2020 – Climate finance entrepreneurs from all over the world can apply for the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance (the Lab). The Lab is looking for innovative finance solutions that can unlock investment in emerging markets to tackle some of the most difficult climate and sustainable development challenges and investment opportunities for a post-COVID, green economic recovery. The application deadline is 22 December 2020, at 17:00 PST, and the new class will be announced in February 2021.

For the 2021 cycle, there is a special call for ideas that target market barriers in energy access, sustainable cities, food systems, and ideas focused on Brazil and Southern Africa. The Lab also welcomes adaptation and mitigation ideas that target other sectors and developing countries.

Successful ideas are selected by Lab Members and other experts based on four criteria: Actionability, Innovation, Catalytic Potential, and Financial Sustainability. These ideas receive over seven months of intensive instrument design, market analysis and funder, investor and implementation partner networking support from high-level leaders from both the public and private sectors and Climate Policy Initiative’s team of experts.

The Lab, an initiative of over 60 public and private investors and institutions, accelerates investment solutions to support sustainable development goals in emerging markets. To date, the Lab has launched 49 instruments that have collectively mobilized USD 2.2 billion for climate action.

On 18 November, the Lab is hosting a webinar that will cover the 2021 call for ideas’ application process. The session will present case studies from previous cycles and a Q&A segment. The Lab will also host a Portuguese webinar on 19 November.
