New South Institute Director, Ivor Chipkin was invited to participate in a select workshop on state capture hosted by Elizabeth David-Barrett at the International Anti-Corruption Academy in Vienna.

The event was organised with Daniel Kaufmann, whose work with Joel Hellman, developed the modern concept of state capture. It brought together some of the leading economists in the world, legal scholars and theorists, together with quantitative researchers to update our understanding of state capture and to develop instruments to measure it globally.

If passed, the framework will give international bodies, together with local courts and civil society bodies with powerful new instruments to hold government accountable.
