State Capture is a political phenomenon that has derailed several promising transitions to democracy. In South Africa the politics of state capture was interrupted through a combination of politically engaged research and effective social mobilization. Some people at the NSI played key roles in this regard. How do we better protect institutions from capture and repurposing in South Africa and elsewhere?
